The movie was very funny.

The movie was absolutely hilarious.

You’ll see that each pair of adjectives has a similar meaning, but the "extreme" adjective has a stronger meaning than its partner.

Of course, we can choose to use either adjective ("the hall was crowded" or "the hall was packed"). One difference is that ordinary adjectives can be used with very ("the hall was very crowded) while extreme adjectives are used with other words such as absolutely ("the hall was absolutely packed") if we want to make the meaning even stronger.

Choose an adjective or extreme adjective for each of these sentences, and be careful with the words "very" and "absolutely"! There may be more than one possible answer.

1. I couldn’t finish the hamburger. It was absolutely ______.

2. We complained to our hotel about the state of our room. It was very ______.

3. No I’m not going swimming in the sea today. The water is absolutely ______!

4. I’m feeling absolutely ______, so I’m going to bed.

5. The lecture was very ______ and all the participants were very glad that they attended.

6. After we finished cleaning the floor it was absolutely ______.
